My Bio!

Hello everybody,

As you all can see, my name is Liliana Garcia. I am a health studies major in high hopes to someday become an occupational therapist. I have a passion to help others because I truly believe one of our purposes in life is to look out for one another. My hobbies include listening to music, singing, spending time with my family and friends, going to church, traveling, trying new foods, shopping, and sleeping because I hardly get to do so.

I am interested in women’s health and heart disease. As a woman, I think it is important for me to be aware of the health issues geared towards women so I can prevent them from happening. I am interested in heart disease because it is a disease that may be prevented, yet it’s one of the most common diseases seen today. My expectation for this class is to gain a better understanding of what goes on in my body. I would also like to learn about diseases that affect one race more than they affect another. I find it fascinating how the composition of our genes can determine what diseases we are more susceptible to!

Finally, something unique about me…

I would say something unique about me would be my obsession with turtles. I love turtles! I’ve had 2 pet turtles, but I recently had to set one free.L However, I still have my other baby turtle; her name is Stephanie!

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone!

  1. Hi Liliana,
It was really nice to know you and have you as a classmate. I think Occupational Therapy is a really nice field to work in. How did you come uo with this major? and I think the unique thing about you is really very unique. I would like to see your baby turtle one day.

    Good luck with the class.

    1. Hello Sapana,

I had actually never heard of occupational therapy until I took a career assessment to see where my calling could be. I came across many therapy careers, but after doing my research I fell in love with occupational therapy. Hopefully I can fulfill my dream and become an occupational therapist :)
Thanks for the compliment I leave it in Dallas with my parents because I'm afraid school life will make me forget to feed her one day :(
Thank you for commenting on my blog!

  2. Hi Liliana,

Turtles?! I love it!!! That is definitely unique and very cool. So I have a question, why declare a major in health studies to go into occupational therapy? Please don't take thatas a criticism, I'm honestly curious. A good friend of mine is an OT and has a successful business here in Denton. Let me know if you would like to network with him or maybe need to talk to someone for a class project or internship. I love it that you mentioned womens health and heart disease. So many people don't know that heart disease is the #1 medical cause of death of American Women. I think I'm going to try to volunteer for the GoRed wear red for heart disease day Feb 1st.

    Good luck this semester,

    Alicia

    1. Hello Alicia,

Yes, a bit strange but I do love my turtles. Thank you for the compliment!

Honestly, I've always sort of been a health freak and I am pretty passionate about the wellbeing of others. Many diseases can be prevented if people were more informed and willing to make positive changes in their lifestyle. I hope that as an occupational therapist someday I can motivate others to take better care of their health :)
That would be great! I have to do an internship in about 2 semesters so I will definitely get back to you on that. Thank you very much!
I think it's great that you want to volunteer with American Heart Association. I had actually thought about volunteering with them for that event as well, but my job and school keep me pretty busy. I really hope you get the chance to do so :)

Thanks for checking out my blog and good luck in your studies!
By the way I like your profile picture!
